Guiomar, Esimba and Anton aren't the only tribal peoples who are in trouble. Here are some more... To see a small map with all these peoples and places on it, click here.

we the Innu We, the Innu (Canada)

We're threatened by industry, pollution and interference by the authorities. There are 20,000 of us.

We, the Jarawa (Andaman Islands)we the Jarawa

We number only a few hundred. Our islands are in the Indian Ocean. We live as we always have: in the forests. Now settlers from India are taking our land and bringing disease.

We, the Wichí (Argentina and Bolivia)we the Wichi

There are only 20,000 of us left. We live in the Chaco - hot and dry grassland - where we hunt deer, iguanas (lizards), fish and grow vegetables. Ranchers are now taking our land for cattle.

we the Bushmen We, the 'Bushmen' (Africa)

We live in southern Africa where it is hot and dry. We hunt animals and gather wild foods. There are around 95,000 of us. Like the Wichí, ranchers are taking our land from us to herd cattle. Some of our land in the Kalahari Desert has been taken to mine diamonds.

we the AmungmeWe, the Amungme, (West Papua)

We are tribal peoples numbering just 13,000 from the big mountainous tropical island of Papua, north of Australia. Like all tribal people, we live off the land, hunting animals and growing vegetables. Now huge copper and gold mines have opened on our land even though we don't need or want them.

what I thinkYou know what struck me when I visited these wonderful peoples around the world? They don't need the modern human world of industry, pollution, noise, stock markets, airplanes, nuclear powermodern industrial world stations, cars, supermarkets and stuff. Like all other life on Earth, they've learned to live in harmony with the planet. They take what they need and no more. Wise modern people could learn something from them because what they are doing is what modern industrial humans are not doing: they are living lightly - sustainably - on our beautiful planet. None of the crises of today (like pollution, global warming and ozone holes) are of their making. Yet, modern industrial humans are forcing them out just about everywhere by taking their lands and denying them basic human rights.

Maybe you'd like to learn more about these wonderful peoples? Or even help them? If you would, you can visit the Survival International website and find out how you can help Survival or simply find out more about tribal peoples.

Bye for now!

Love from
