Hard to see this in Joseph's small picture. Did you know that coffee grows on
big bushes and the fruit is a bright red fleshy berry? Inside the flesh is the
bean which people dry, roast and grind up to make the drink. Coffee originally
came from this part of Africa (Ethiopia) but is now grown all over the tropical
world as a 'cash crop'. A 'cash crop' is one which is grown to sell and make money,
not for local people to eat. In Brazil (for example), big landowners and companies
grow huge amounts of coffee, soybeans and sugarcane as cash crops but millions
of poor people have no land and no way to grow food or earn money.
