
is growing food in a way that means you can continue to do it for
ever. It does not depend totally upon cheap energy (fossil fuel) which is now
used for huge machines and for making fertilisers and pesticides. Another part
of sustainable farming is selling most of the food locally through farmers'
markets, local shops and other community schemes. This avoids using yet more
fossil fuels for long-distance transport in trucks
and airplanes. And sustainable farming - more or less the same as organic
farming - is kind to the land and animals that are part of it.
