Hello
Tiki, You've got a GREAT website! Thanks for all the information and
encouragement. Thought you and all the other penguins would like to
know about my new cd of songs for "Eco-Crusaders" called "The
Last Frontier." Hope you'll take a moment to have a look
and listen. Perhaps you'll even let me hear from you. All the best,
JP -- "Singin' for the Earth" (December 2008) |
| |
Hello JP: Thank you for your enthusiastic message. I listened to some
of your songs and they sounded good to me, but then I'm just a penguin!
I noticed that penguins got a mention in your duck song! Good luck
with your CD and what you are doing for conservation! |
Hey, My name
is Ruthie and I am the founder of an organization called Carbon-Free
Kids. What Carbon-Free Kids is trying to do is raise money to offset
the carbon footprint of each member of the organization. We are also
trying to raise awareness of the global warming problem and help everyone
take the first steps in offsetting and reducing their carbon footprint.
I am very impressed with your easy-to-understand explanation and (if
it is alright) I would love to use some of the information for my
blog. It would be wonderful if you could help us in our quest to help
one of the the earth's most crucial problems by putting our name and
site on your website. Thanks so much! Ruthie, Founder of Carbon-Free
Kids (December 2008) |
| |
Hello Ruthie: Firstly, thank you for your kind remarks about my
website. You can use some of the information in your blog but please,
if you use a lot, put a link to where you found it. Otherwise, someone
might accuse you of plagiarism!
I like your website and I've put a link to it
on my global
warming links page. I've also put a link on my front page in
Your Ideas (right column). I'm slightly nervous about offsets because
there's been quite a lot of bad publicity about them. Some companies
make extravagant claims which aren't really true, but what makes
me more nervous is that offsetting allows people to 'pay to pollute'
rather than cut down on their carbon pollution, something everyone
has to do as soon as possible. I'm not for one minute saying that
your idea isn't a good one; just that you need to be aware of the
issues around offsetting, as I'm sure you are! Good luck!
Ruthie replied:
Hey, Sorry it took me so long to respond. I wanted to thank you
first for linking us to your website and also for your concern about
the off-setting problems. I can assure you, I personally know some
of the members and Carbonfund.org is a most reliable company. You
can check out their website at http://carbonfund.org. We also finally
got up the blog post that uses the information from your site (don't
worry we mentioned where the information came from and linked your
site the the post). You can check it out at http://carbonfreekids.net.
Thanks so much! --Ruthie |
Hi
Tiki. I am Maya. I have made
a website about recycling of my own for a school project. I need
an audience and I would like to know if you would help me advertise
it by putting a link of it somewhere on your page. I think our pages
have a lot in common becuase we are both trying to show children how
they can make a difference. If you are interested I can email you back
with a link. Thank you for your time and considertion. (November 2008) |
 |
Hello Maya: Your website sounds great. If you send me a link, I can
decide where I might put it. Did you have any particular one of my
pages in mind? |
hello
tiki, my class are researching global warming and we have uswed your
site to do this. We will be writing to our local MP to ask him to vote
for lowering our carbon output in our town. We are writing a peruasive
leaflet to tell our families how to help fight global warming. Could
you write back to us if all my class write to you? From CLaire (November
2008) |
  |
Dear Claire (and your class): You are an active class! Just what the
planet needs. I hope your leaflet is a big success and that your MP
helps you in your quest to get your town to lower its carbon emissions.
If your class want to write to me, could they perhaps do it through
you? Then I'd have one email to answer rather than dozens (I don't
know how many people there are in your class!).
Good luck with your campaign! |
dear
tiki: hello I just wanted to know how old are you and does your site
have any games? hope you are well from Timothy (November 2008) |
| |
Dear Timothy: Somebody else just asked me how old I was and I said
I didn't really know. Penguins don't bother about ages. My site does
have some games. Didn't you look at my Fun pages? I am well and I
hope you are too! |
Dear
Tiki, I just love your website it is so cooool! I just love your games, quizzes, puzzles
and many more. I would also like to know more of your website and about
you. Lots of love from Danica. Ps:Message me soon. (November 2008) |
 |
Dear Danica: And I loved your email. How kind of you to write to me
and say all those nice things about my website. Thank you, too, for
your jokes. It may take me a few weeks to do, but I'll put them on
my jokes page and let you know when I have done it.
You can find out more about my website by surfing
around it (use my navigator). You can also find out more about me
by going to this
page. And have you seen the Questions
pages? |
hi
tiki its antonie U may not remember me, well by the way your website
looks great so far although I think some games would be super, this
might be a awser that you might not whant to give to me but how old
are you and where abouts do you live. by for now (November 2008) |
| |
Dear Antonie: I'm glad you like my website. I agree some more games
would be good. I just have to find the time.
The truth is I don't really know how old I am..
Penguins don't celebrate birthdays or keep birth date records. Sorry.
I normally live in the South Atlantic Ocean but I was hatched from
my egg on South Georgia island. |
Dear
Tiki, My name is Nadya and I am eleven years old. I'm part of a group
of eleven to fourteen year olds called the Cool Kids, trying to help
stop global warming. We have been doing a lot of research, and found
out a lot of interesting facts.
Were you aware that the meat industry is responsible
for 18% of all greenhouse gases? That’s more than the transportation
sector! An average car produces 3 kg/day of CO2 and the production of
one hamburger produces 75 kg of CO2. You can decide what you eat. I
bet if you looked at 10 facts about the benefits of eating less meat,
you would eat less meat. These facts and more are on our website.
Our goal is to get thousands of people, especially
kids, to commit to eating less meat and by doing so, making a huge change
in global warming. Please look at our site, and help spread the word
to all the people you know. We would love to have a quote from you for
our website. Visit
our website to join us in our campaign.
Sincerely, Nadya, on behalf of the Cool Kids (October
2008) |
  |
Dear Nadya: I am really impressed with what you Cool Kids are doing.
I've had a look at your website and I love it. You and your group
have certainly done some good work and so I've put a special link
to your site from my Twelve
Really Important Things you can do page (scroll down to 9).
A quote from me? I'm honoured. How about 'Tiki
the Penguin says: "If you only do one thing to help slow global
warming, that thing should be cutting down on eating meat or, better
still, cutting it out and going vegetarian"'.
Good luck with your campaign and keep up the
good work!
Nadya replied:
Dear Tiki, Really? Cool! I checked out Twelve Really Important Things
You Can Do Page and scrolled down and saw! Ok, that's a good quote!
I'll tell more people about your site. Actually, we realized that
vegan is even better! Although I was already vegetarian, I cut down
on my dairy! I don't have ANY butter anymore! People have been going
to your website, and clicking the link to our website! Thanks! Nadya

Hello

your website. It's fun. I am a big penguin lover. My favorite species
of penguin is the Gentoo Penguin. They are so very cute! I plan on volunteering
to work at an aquarium with gentoo penguins in a couple of years. I
love them so much. I want to help penguins as much as I can. :) (October
2008) |
 |
Hello Jared: I'm glad you like visiting my website. I'm also glad
you like penguins so much. Your volunteering idea sounds great; a
very good way to get to know your favourite gentoos. |

your blog and I see you have posted a piece about climate change.
Good for you! I'm glad there are humans like you who are doing their
bit to save the world. |

pleased you like my website and that you are going to recommend it
to your friends. I will try and continue to put useful stuff about
the world on my site so I hope you will come back and visit often!
I try not to spend too much time on my computer! |
tiki,
i was thinking about starting a club where i educate kids, teens, and
grown-ups who want to get involved with saving trees, recycling, you know
that kinda thing that would drive my dad nuts and he would call it "hippie
groups" but then i explain to my dad that hippie groups are so
lame and so 1770.the club is called club earth, once i get the stuff
for my printer, wich includes:earth friendly colored and black ink printer
cartreges (if there's such a thing and lexmark printer co.makes them!*)
and some recycled and/or orcanic-ly recycled paper ill make a fun ad
on my computer to pass out to kids and teachers at my school and ill
also see if i can put the ad in the charleston, summerville, and knightsville
newspapers ill see if i can find a place to have my club, cause my neghborhood
has a homeowners association that wont let us have the texas flag hanging
proudly outside! and they took away our trash can just because me and
my family has pride in texas!! and nobody living in this neghborhood
is allowed to keep a shed,a green house,or a treehouse/clubhouse in
their yard, this lady threatend to kill my cat and i told the homeowners
ass.,and they didnt do anything about it! but ill start with the club
earth email greenletter club. oh and btw (by the way),club earth is
going to support your website, well once i figure out the situations
that just hit me,and get some ads that are cool and get lots of peoples
attention, "the save tiki fund" is club earth's head charity, bye
tiki,i will put you and the name of ur website and email address in
the club earth ad! bye tiki, sorry my meesage was so long! penguin girl
(September 2008) |
 |
Dear penguin girl: Your message was long but very interesting. I think
your club earth idea is great. I hope you will keep me posted on how
it develops. It's not an easy thing to do, getting a club going, so
other kids will be interested to hear how it works. Maybe they can
then copy your example.
You can get recycled printer cartridges so it's
worth looking around for them on the web.
I'm pleased to hear that you want to support me!
Good luck! |
Hi
Tiki ,My name is Kesa. How are you ?I am fine. I Pick up litters if there
is and help the world .I wish that everyone will do this .Tiki what
will you do to help the world?Tiki what colour do you like? I like pink
Ihope you will e-mail me soon . Bye! From Kesa (September 2008) |
 |
Dear Kesa: I am fine too, thank you. I am very pleased to hear that
you pick up litter. I wish that nobody would throw their rubbish away
like that. Then nobody would have to pick it up.
What I do to help the world is not make a mess
of it in the first place. Penguins live in harmony with the world.
Unfortunately, many people don't! I also run my website for people
like you to find out stuff about our planet and its living things.
I don't have a favourite colour. I like them all.
Thank you for writing to me. |
Hello
tiki! I lovee my planet and would like to join your quest! And also,
can you send me very interesting site names? Contact me soon! Julia,
10 yrs old (August 2008) |
| |
Hello Julia: I'm glad you love our planet and am very happy that you
want to join me and hundreds of other kids (see my Friends pages like
this one) in our efforts to make planet Earth a kinder place for people,
penguins and all living things.
You asked in a separate email for interesting site
names. There are thousands! You can find some of them by looking at
the Links pages at the end of each of my guides. For example, my Global
Warming Links page. |
Hi
my name is Jessina and I am trying to stop global warming just like

 |
Dear Jessina: How did your garbage-picking go? Did you pick up lots?
I was very pleased to hear from you that you're trying to stop global
warming. That's a very big aim but a very good one. I hope you can
encourage your friends and family to help you. I expect you know about
my What
you can do page which should be useful. |
My
name is antonie I think you shoud put some games on your website it
will make iit a holl lot cooler. thanks for the great site, rejards
Antonie (August 2008) |
| |
Dear Antonie: Thank you for your suggestion about games. My quizzes
are games of a sort but I agree some more fun things would be good.
Trouble is they're rather difficult to do and there's only me and
no money! There are plenty of games sites for kids on the web but
I will see if I can add some more stuff over the coming months.
