Dear Tiki How are you? My Name is Courtney I am in 5th grade. We
went to 6 website about energy and 1 was yours. I like you website
the best. I had alot of interesting things to learn. We have learned
about of saving energy. I learned how to turn off lights when not
using them. I learned about keeping the refrigerator door shut.
My Dad put a timer on my t.v. to shut off at a certain time. We
also learned how to unplug things when not in use. Sincerely Courtney
Corigliano (November 2006)

 |
Dear Courtney: I'm very pleased you found my Energy
Guide useful and that you found that my site was best out of
six. I like your dad's idea of using a timer to switch off the TV.
|
Dear Tiki, I enjoyed your web site. It had a lot of useful information
that I have shared with my parents. The fifth and sixth grade classes
are working on ways to preserve and save energy. Here are some of
our ideas: turn off lights when no one is in a room; not keeping
the refrigerator door open too long; better insulating our home
in the attic and windows to keep heat inside; and replace standard
light bulbs with energy smart bulbs which last up to five years.
Do you know
of any other energy web sites?
Sincerely, Colin Law (November 2006)
|
 |
Dear
Colin: I'm very pleased to hear your enjoyed my site and that it
gave you some ideas for things to do to save energy. Insulation
and low-energy light bulbs are especially worthwhile.
Here's
an energy
site you might find helpful. There are many others but they're
not very helpful if you don't have a lot of understanding already.
|
At home I will turn off lights in my house when I am not useing
them. I will also only use two light when I think it is nessesary
to. I will think of what I need out of the refrigerator befor openning
it. I will only play video games for short amounts of time to save
energy. When I am shopping I will look for Energy Star labbles.

All
good stuff. All these things that you're doing will make a difference.

of meeting. i love u. will u marry me? lots of love gemma xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
(November 2006)

| |
Hello
Gemma: I'm very pleased to be 'cool', but that's easy living where
I do down in the Antarctic.
No human has ever asked me to marry them before, so I'm flattered.
But you can't be serious: humans can only marry humans, not other
animals!

Hi tiki . I know how to help! I been using my energy wisely. Like
turning off the lights when I'm not using them. Well other than
that I am a very healthy eater and dance about 6 days a week. I
guess you can say that I use my energy like I'm suppose to. My friend
only lives down the street so I ride my bike down instead of making
my mom drive down. That's just a waste of energy. You can see why
there is so much of wasting energy. What I found was a way of not
wasting it. (November 2006)
|
  |
You
certainly do know how to help! If everyone made the efforts you
are making, things would be much better. It's great that you can
ride your bike to visit your friend and I hope that there's not
too many cars and stuff on your street which can make bike-riding
a bit scary and dangerous. But I'm sure you're careful. And I'm
sure your mom will have thought about that too.
I'm glad too that you
take so much other exercise like dancing. Using your own energy
- which you sensibly get from healthy eating - is good for you and
good for the planet. But you already know that.
Brilliant!
Thanks for your note.

Tiki, I have read your energy guide and I have some feedback for
you. You should always remember to turn off your lights, televisions, radios,
any thing electronic that could be considered an, "Energy hog."
I also think energy is a privilege and you should use it wisely
or not at all! you should also use energy sparingly so you dont
have to. "Take" it from other people.
your friend, Brenna (November
2006)
|
|
Dear
Brenna: Nobody can call me an energy hog! (I am, after all, a penguin.)
I always turn off my computer and everything, just as you say, because
I completely agree with you! In fact, I have a page of tips about
this in my Climate Change Guide: What you can do Twelve Really Important
Things you can do to help stop global warming!
Thanks for writing to me!

Dear Tiki, Your site is awesome! My family
has always tried to save energy as much as possible. However, after
reading your article "Fair Shares" I came up with some
ways I can help you and your friends at my home. I can save energy
by turning off appliances and lights when they are not being used.
I will start deciding everything I need in the refrigerator before
I open it. I can help by taking shorter showers and cooler showers
in the summer. I will also layer my clothing and use blankets instead
of turning up the heat during the fall and winter months. I hope
this will help make a difference. Thank you for encouraging me to
become a better energy saver. STAY COOL! Hannah, 6th Grade Sylvan-Verona
Beach Elementary, New York (November 2006)

Dear
Hannah: I was so excited and impressed with your email that I put
it straight on my home page. You can find it if you scroll down
Tiki's Picks a short way. So now lots of other people can see the
great things you too are doing to be more planet-friendly and to
save energy. Thank you for writing to me and yes, please keep working
on saving energy. You're setting a brilliant example; you are making
a difference!

Dear Tiki, At home we are trying very hard to
save energy. People should not be greedy. It is very annoying and
people don't like it. They are only thinking about themselves and
that needs to stop. They are using up energy because once they use
up all of theirs they take it from somebody else, and that's not
fair. They should use up all of theirs wisely, they should use a
sensible amount so they will not run out and have to take somebody
else's, people should help. I will help by taking walks to places
that are short distances away, and I will also not turn up the heat
up if I am cold. If I am cold I will just put on more clothes. I
will tell people I know to turn off their things when they leave
a room I will also tell them to use their own energy, to become
more active. I am trying to be a energy saver but there are still
some things that I could work on, but I also doing more energy saving
then I have done. We are turning off the TV, more. We are also unplugging
more things too. But there are still some things we could do. Sometimes
when I leave a room I forget to turn of the light and I have to
work on turning off lamps and lights. Something I really have to
work on is when I am hungry I don't think about what I want to eat
I just go to the refrigerator, leave the door open and looking for
something that looks good. It lets all of the cold air out of the
refrigerator, and that's wasting energy. When I leave a room I turn
off the things that are on in the room. But there is one thing that
I don't turn off a lot. That thing is my computer. I leave it on
most of the time, even though it takes a lot of energy to turn it
off and turn it on all of the time, I could just turn it on in the
morning and shut down at night time. I will keep working on saving
energy. Bye. Sincerely, Energy saving Emily (November 2006)

Hello

Instead of throwing away your toys and clothes when you get to big
for them hand them down to any younger, smaller people you know
or give them to a charity shop. This way things get use over and
over again.
From
Katie (November 2006)

 |
Dear
Katie: That's
very good advice. Not everybody thinks of such simple but sensible
ways of using things over and over again rather than throwing them
away.
Thank
you for writing to me!
