| Hello. I saw
your website about what is happening to penguins in Antarctica, and
allthough i was already aware of the problem, and i didnt read much
of that text (because i almost started crying) its good to see another
one concerned about what is happening. I discovered this
site where you can aid penguins. I hope many decide to do that,
because we cant let this happen. Regards Paul (July 2007) |
| |
Dear Paul: Thank you for your email with the useful links (here's
the other). I'll put them all on my Friends page shortly so that
others can find these sites and do what they can. |
Dear Tiki,
I think you are very cute! I have a website too! It's called Pyratu's
Pages! It's at www.pyratu.com and I made it all by myself! I'm 15 by
the way. Can't wait to hear back from you! Please check out my website?
Thanks! ~Pyratu (July 2007) |
| |
Dear Pyratu: Thank you for your email. I like your website quiz and
got fooled by it. I though Nunu was the answer and it's Mary! Oh well,
I am only a penguin! |
Dearest Tiki:
I am an Environmental Education Officer
for the Department of Tourism, Environment and Conservation in the Northern
Cape Province, South Africa. One of the objectives that my work entails
is environmental education within the classroom on all environmental
and conservation issues. I just wanted to know whether
you might have any information regarding resources especially for the
Foundation phase learners which includes grades 1-3. We are looking
at developing some and need some fresh ideas from which we could work
from. Thank you for the inspiring website. Kind
regards. Valda (June 2007) |
| |
Dear Valda: The information I have
is all online on my website. I'm sorry that I don't have anything
else, but please feel free to use - and print out - materials from
my site that might help you.
|
Dear Tiki,
I want to be a marine biologist when I’m older. I’m ten,
work hard, and wish to help my favorite animal the penguin. If you
have tips on how to help tell me please! I found your site searching
the web and I’m glad I did. I have been with penguins and understand
there sweet. Please mail back! Thanks, Maggie (June 2007) |
 |
Dear Maggie: I think your aim to
be a marine biologist is absolutely wonderful. Some penguins do indeed
need help for a variety of reasons, most of them connected with what
people are doing. So do many other marine creatures need help. As
for how you get to be what you want, I think you probably know the
sort of thing you'd need to do. You mentioned working hard and obviously
that is vital. You have to get through all the various exams and get
to university to take a degree course and probably do some practical
research work at that time into your chosen species (penguins or ??).
So you need to be interested in and good at biology at school. I assume
you are. These days, it helps to be good with computer skills too,
and also at other sciences and mathematics. If you want to work with
penguins, you'll need to be prepared to be cold since most of them
live in and around the Antarctic! I hope that helps and I wish you
a successful future working with marine wildlife like penguins. |
Dear Penguin,
Hi, I'm Bryan and I'm 10 years old, studying in a primary school in
Australia. My teacher, Alison , instructed us students to search some
websites, related to our subject this term, energy, in the Internet.
I had just finished reading an article of "How Greek and Romans
favoured solar energy" from the Internet, while an idea sprang
up in my mind. Going into the Internet! After typing in "Energy
for children" in the slote, I knew I was doing the correct thing.
The page changed, from the dull "BBC news" to a list of websites,
based on our subject. I chose the second. Then another list sprang out,
revealling other websites, much more 'strait-to-the-point' ones. Then
I chose the second one again. It looks like this: What
is energy? It eventually, rather
unexpectedly, turned out to be your website. I am rather pleased of
reading your article, as it gave me lots of information. Although rather
' well read', I still found out that we can save the Earth, by growing
your own feuls, and much more amazed... that it was Brazilians who brought
out fantastic idea! Regards: Bryan (June 2007) |
| |
Dear Bryan: I'm glad you were able
to find my energy guide. Yes, biofuels are becoming the next 'big
thing', especially in the USA. Unfortunately, the more food (like
maize) which is converted into alcohol for car engines, the less food
there is for people to eat. So some food prices are going up which
is bad news in a world of 6.5 billion people!
|
Hey Tiki! Are
you really a penguin? If you are, you must be really smart to know how
to type with your flippers. I REALLY WANT TO KNOW!!!!! Please do not
say it's a secret!
Nicky (May 2007) |
| |
But Nicky, it is a secret. I like to keep
people guessing! I really feel that you should decide for yourself.
By the way, typing with my flippers
is the easy part. Learning all the other stuff is the difficult bit.
|
Hi Tiki: I
have got 2 good news : My mum has bought 2 fluoressent light bulbs and
I have planted a tree and now it,s 41cm's long but 3cm,s high is that
bad? Ronan (May 2007) |
| |
Now that is good news, Ronan. I hope your tree grows big. At the moment,
it sounds rather flat but of course trees take some time to grow (depending
on the tree: some are quite fast). Most trees have quite similar width
and height as they grow. Maybe you can plant some more?! |
hay tiki I
just found your site when I was looking for information for my research
project I think your site is so cool and it has helped me with my research
project I have looked on heaps of sites for this information but I thought
your site was the best and has helped me the most so far. from Libby
(May 2007) |
 |
Dear Libby: It was very kind of
you to write and thank me. It makes it all worthwhile when I get such
a nice email! |
Hello there,
I was looking for some information on vegetarians as I am a Pesco Vegetarian
(which most people including myself don't count as vegetarians). I wanted
to work my way up the ladder to Vegan and my some day be a fruitarian
who knows. I came across your site on the web. I just wanted to make
some comments if I may. First of all I want to say thanks for your page
to show everyone. I wanted to also say as far as Vegans, that while
some don't eat meat because of the way the animals are treated but also
they may not eat meats and by products because of health reasons. As
far as Lacto/Ovo Vegetarians, I am sure they are aware of the abuse
that still is going on with the animals, they may have other reasons
such as they don't want to go without most things and also it's not
easy being a vegan because you do have to do so much research or you
can be screwed when it comes to vitamin defincy. My reasons are for
wanting to be a vegetarian is strictly health reasons. I could be at
risk for a heart attack which I want to avoid at all possiblities. I
think it is excellent that you explained what is being used by the animals.
Thanks for your website, Laila (May 2007) |
| |
And thank you for your interesting email, Laila. I'm pleased you've
found my site helpful. It certainly seems clear that the more fresh
fruit and veg you eat in your diet, the healthier you're likely to
be. Unfortunately (for the fish), fish oils seem to be important too
although I believe that vegans live perfectly well without them by
eating plant sources of these special oils (like hemp, linseed or
flax and evening primrose). I wish you luck with your move towards
a pure vegetarian diet and hope it helps keep you healthy.
|
dear tiki:
I have been on your website and i think it is so cool!!!!!!!!!! I was
wondering what is your full name???????????? And how many animal friends
do you have??? As i said befor i love your website and the bit on the
healthy part i used it for my homework. your sinsearly, twinkle i'm
a boy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (May 2007) |
| |
Hello Twinkle: You sound like a
Star! (joke) And thank you for writing nice things about my website.
My full name is Tiki the Penguin. That's it. I have lots of animal
friends; mostly other penguins and seabirds. |
Dear Tiki,
How are you? My name is Stephanie,
I am seven years old. I live in Hong Kong and I am studying in Peak
School. In my free time I like reading. It's very nice of you to give
us your website. I love your games and my best was playing some wordsearches,
and I have joined your friend list, hopefully I wish you could create
more games, alright? I was very interest in your qizzes, I would like
to know all about you. Regards, Stephanie (May 2007) |
| |
Dear Stephanie: I'm glad you enjoy
my site and the games and quizzes. I'd like to make some more but
it's quite difficult. If you want to know more about me, click here.
I hope that helps... |
Hi there!!
my name is Ivonne i'm mexican and i live in Mexicali Baja California,
I've been watching your site and it's realy interesting what i'm doing
know is making a proyect by using your information and translating it
to spanish for a school homework but i'm realy interested in do sometihng
more than just a homework about global warming. So I'll try to search
for the help in the university. Just wanted you to know, and thanks
for doing somthing like this for us and the world (May 2007) |
 |
Dear Ivonne: What you're doing,
and hoping to do, sounds great. Let me know how you get on! I wish
my whole site was in Spanish as well as English. Espero
que venga un dia cuando puede ser. |
the climate
change is happening very fast and i like how youve written it very affective
yet simple from joe (May 2007) |
| |
Climate change does seem to be happening very fast, as you say Joe.
I'm glad you found my guide useful! |
I really like the things that you wrought they are a big help for
my report that is on global warming. From Nate (May 2007)
|
| |
Dear Nate: I really like that you
took the time to write and thank me! I'm so pleased my writings have
been helpful to you. |
Hi, well i
saw this page because i was doing a project in science so i decided
to e-mail you but i think that the usa has to stop using the big machines
because we are not going to last to long, alot of people are sayinj
that in 100 years the world is gonna end so i dont want that to happend
but if we keep on doing this we are going to ruin our own world so maybe
a solution for that is to ride bicycles instead oh cars with gasoline
because thats what is warming the earh people just stop using big machines
please. (May 2007) |
| |
I agree completely with what you say. Big machines that burn fuel
like gasoline (cars), diesel (trucks) and kerosene (planes) are going
to have to go. So are power stations that burn coal to make electricity.
Riding bikes is great. Another solution is for people to stop travelling
so much. Before all these big machines, everyone walked or used horses
to get around. And to cross the sea, they used windpower and sails.
It's all very difficult, isn't it!
There are no easy answers. Thank you for your interesting email. |
Hi Tiki,
Because your a penguin, I thought you'd enjoy reading some of these...
[Alex sent me five penguin jokes which you can see on my Jokes
pages.
Here's the last
one which... errmm... I thought was the best!!...
Q: Whose the nicest, sweetest, friendliest, and kindest penguin ever?
A: Tiki is for making such a good website!!!!
Hope you really did enjoy reading this. Alex ( Grade 5 ) P.S. My teacher
is the one who showed me this site. We are learning all about pollution.
(May 2007) |
 |
Hello Alex: I really enjoyed your jokes. I thought the one about weighing
fish was really clever. I'll put them on my jokes page when I get
time and will let you know. It may be a month or so because I just
updated my jokes page yesterday.
I'm glad your teacher is encouraging you to use
my site to find out about pollution. Thanks again for your penguin
jokes! |
i love you
website!!! me and my friend are going to start a parade for pollution
(April 2007) |
  |
I'm glad you like my website and I'm really glad you're going to start
a pollution parade. Maybe you could tell me some more about it sometime!
|
Hello, I am
a fan of your site, and your environmental focus is similar to the focus
of my site, so I wanted to say hello. I am interested in doing what
I can to help the environment, and I have developed a couple of websites
to promote the cause: www.savephoenix.org,
www.modernfurniture.org,
and www.catalogprinting.net.
The SavePhoenix organization is about reducing air pollution in Phoenix
and nationwide, catalogprinting.net is about eco-friendly printing methods,
and modernfurniture.org is about green furniture building. They are
all non profit sites. Thanks, Sarah Peterson, USA (April 2007) |
| |
Dear Sarah: I'm impressed by your three sites, though they're not
really for the age group I target, I think you'd agree. But I've put
your message here for anyone interested. |
Hi I`m a keystage
one teacher and I happened to look up "energy" to find some
teaching ideas. Came onto your site for the first time. Absolutely brilliant!
well done whoever the brain was behind it! I shall use it lots. Janette
(April 2007) |
 |
It was a penguin brain, of course! Mine! Glad you liked my site.
|
Hi im Georgia
and ive just started a new school and im really scared and shy and I
really want to make friends with this girl but I don’t know how
can u help oh mighty tiki
Ps I LOVE PENGUINS u should see my room its covered in penguins
Pss im from new Zealand
Psss if u reply to me your like so cool!!!
Pssss B Y E (April 2007) |
| |
Dear Georgia: Nobody had ever called me 'mighty' before. I'm flattered!
If you're shy, making friends is always a little
scary. Maybe try plucking up your courage and tell her you would really
like to be her friend? She might be as shy and scared as you and really
would like to be YOUR friend! |
I do lots for
the planet I pull the plugs from my house, re-use plastic bags and recycle
soft drink cans hi to Tiki Ronan, Hong Kong China Asia (April 2007) |
 |
Good for you, Ronan! Keep up your good work! |
Hey tiki I
had to do a project on pollution!!! Well I was looking for really good
websites then I found yours it helped me so much. Thank you so much.
Love Amanda (March 2007) |
| |
Dear Amanda: I'm really happy you found my website so useful. Thanks
for writing! |
I think this
website is great it has loads of information and there arnt any words
i dont understand. Thanks alot you have made my understanding of pollution
a whole lot better. Love Jack x (March 2007) |
| |
Dear Jack: I'm really pleased to have your message. It's very important
that there aren't words you don't understand. That's the aim of my
site: to explains difficult stuff without long words. I'm really glad
it's worked for you. |
hello tiki
im Charlotte and i live at (... and Charlotte gave me her full postal
address in England). I think your web site is really interesting and
fun!!!!!! what is your favourite part of the website? My faviourite part
is the Quiz.(but i never get it right) (February 2007) |
| |
Hello Charlotte: I'm glad you like my website. Some of the quizzes
are quite difficult, aren't they, but they're good fun. I think they're
my favourite too.
By the way, it's not a good idea to give out your
name and address to people you don't know. It's no problem doing so
to me because I'm a penguin but I suggest you don't to others. Perhaps
talk with your parents about this?!
Thank you for writing to me! |
I really liked
what was on there (my climate
change guide). It was very enjoyable ( not boring )! ! (February
2007) |
| |
I'm so pleased it wasn't boring! Climate change is many things but
certainly not boring. |
hiya Tiki:
I think you are really sweet. Please keep your navagation great.
Love Lara (February 2007) |
| |
Dear Lara: I'm very happy to be called 'sweet'.
It's very sweet of you to write and tell me so!
|
Hi, I've got
onother idea on haw to help the plantet. Why dont we have a shawer instead
of having a bath that way we are using less water.Ireally liked your
website it really help me on what Global Warming is all about (I DIDNT
UNDERSTAND IT AT FIRST BUT NAW I DO) Thank you Very Much Angharad xx
(January 2007) |
 |
Hello Angharad: Your idea is great! Yes, taking a shower rather than
a bath uses much less water - and much less water that has to be heated
to make it hot. I don't mind cold water. In fact I love it, but humans
without warm feathers don't like cold baths or showers! But heating
water means using more energy and, as you know, most of that energy
comes from fossil fuels which make global warming worse. I'm very
pleased that I helped you understand about global warming. Lots of
people don't. |
My name is
Louise and I am 12 turning 13 ,I think more people should walk like
my next door neighbours walk to the shops with their dog its far away
it uses less polution and it keeps people healthy, people should stop
cutting trees down and grow more, try to reuse things, turn off power
points (January 2007) |
 |
Hello Louise: As you might expect, I agree with your suggestions about
saving energy and walking to keep healthy and so on. Maybe you can
pass on these good tips to your friends and family - if you haven't
already done that. The more people get the message, the better things
will be for all of us! |
Dera Tiki,
I love your website!!!!!!!!! I tell all my friends about it. My name
is Eileen. I am 8 years old. Last year I went on a cruise to the Virgin
Islands, San Juan, and Tortolla. On the ship they had a kids room that
kids can go in and you can go to plays with the people in charge on
the ship, you can have a slumber party!!! And at San Juan we went to
church, we went to this plce where your shirt changes color, it's
so cool!!! At the Virgin Islands we went snorkling. At Tortolla we
went shopping at this place, but is was really really really hot.
On the cruise they had BINGO. They also had a GAMEROOM where you could
play a lot of games. In your room they had an outside where you could
stand outside over the water on a porch. My Cruise Was Really Really
Fun!!! My Birthday is on Janurary.26,2007,I'll be 9 years old. Love,
Eileen
I think your website is so cool!!!! I just sent an e-mail to my friend
Caitlyn, so she could e-mail you and that she could e-mail her friends
about it. You're so so cool!! Please write back (January 2007) |
| |
Dear Eileen: Thank you for both your emails. You certainly seem to
have had a wonderful time on your cruise. I've never been there because
it's too warm for a penguin but I guess that snorkelling around in
the warm sea, looking at fish and corals, is very exciting.
Thank you for your kind remarks about my website.
And Happy Birthday on 26th! |
Hi Tiki, My
name is Keats and I would like to tell you how yo ucan make your site
> better than before. Well firstly, you can get some friend that
are animals and get them a nickname like you have Tiki the penguin why
not have Leo the lion??? Any way thats what I think will make your website
better. Love from Keats (December 2006) |
| |
Dear Keats Thank you for your idea. I agree with you! And I have thought
about doing just that. I had a lion (from India) all lined up. You
can see what she looks like. Unfortunately she never got going because
my website has no money to support any other creatures. So Sheroo
the Indian lion (and not many people know there are lions in India)
remains just these few drawings. Sad, isn't it. |
Dear tiki ,
You are the coolest penguin i have ever met. I would like to keep in
touch with you. I visit your site every day.i love you. I think you
should make a membership account page where people could create memberships
for themselves and play special games and earn points and stuff. love
Katherina (December 2006) |
| |
Dear Katherina: I'm flattered by all your kind remarks and I'm glad
you visit my site often. Sadly, I am just one rather slow penguin
who doesn't have the time or resources to keep updating his website.
I've thought about something like you suggest but it's complicated
to do and, in any case, there are plenty of similar 'meeting places'
(like MySpace) which do the job much better than I ever could. You
can, of course, play a few games and do
quizzes on my site but I'm sure you know about them. Thanks for
writing! |
Hey Tiki!!!
You should have like a section on ther kids around the world and like
how hard thier live are, like the kids in Africa as young as 3 who
have to work in mines and don't get to school and stuff like that.
Because kids should know how easy their lives are. Why not even start
a donattions fund to send poor kids to school? Sounds good to me.
I hope my ideas will come of use to you guys.
Yours respectfully, Laila, from Karachi, Pakistan
(December 2006) |
  |
Dear
Laila: I think your ideas are brilliant. You know, I've been thinking
about doing something like you suggest, perhaps by making links
with a few schools in different poor countries. Each school could
have a little presentation by its kids about their daily lives:
what they do, how they live, what they eat. Would you perhaps be
interested in doing something like that? What do you think? My biggest
problem is that I don't have any help with my website (and almost
no money) so I can't do anything fancy. But I can post your email
on my front page so that other kids (and maybe parents) will see
it.
As for donations, again a great idea but rather
difficult and definitely beyond a penguin! There are so many charities
these days, and many are trying to get rich people to give some
of their money to help the poor children. Many are very good at
what they do. Action Aid (for example) has a programme a bit like
you suggest.
Thank you for writing!
